As pastagens naturais do Bioma Pampa caracterizadas pela diversidade de espécies, principalmente gramíneas e leguminosas, as quais constituem a base da dieta animal. Reconhecer a qualidade dessas forrageiras, por meio da porcentagem de matéria verde produzida nestes campos é uma maneira de maximizar o desempenho animal e otimizar recursos forrageiros. Nesta pesquisa, avaliou-se sistemas de manejo: 4, 8, 12 e 16 kg de matéria seca (MS)/100 kg de peso vivo (PV), pastagem natural fertilizada e pastagem natural fertilizada com introdução de Lotus angustissimus, cujo objetivo foi verificar relação entre porcentagem de matéria verde com dados do Índice de Vegetação Normalizada (NDVI), obtidos com o GreenSeeker®. Ambos sistemas de manejo são manejados pelo método de pastejo com lotação contínua e taxa de lotação variável para ajuste das ofertas de forragem preconizadas. Os dados foram coletados nas Estações Experimentais da UFRGS e Glencoe, pertencente ao INIA Tacuarembó. Realizaram-se cinco cortes (quadro de 0,25m2) em cada bloco, totalizando dez amostras por nível de intensificação. A avaliação da massa de forragem total foi estratificada em massa de forragem verde (MV) e morta (MM), separadas manualmente. Conforme as equações, observa-se que o conteúdo de matéria verde na matéria seca total, em todos os sistemas avaliados na estação primaveril, apresentou comportamento linear crescente em função do NDVI (?=44,50+54,06x; P=0,0033; R2=78,71%); (?=33,83+56,64x; P=0,052; R2=39,38%); (?=-21,34+134,36x; P=0,0967; R2=30,67%); (?=-63,35+195,34x; P=0,0010; R2=76,03%); (?=-2,74+92,67x; P=0,0023; R2=75,54%); (?=-58,82+172,20x; P=0,0028; R2=69,35%) para 4, 8, 12, 16 kg de MS/100 kg PV, fertilizado e fertilizado com introdução de espécie, respectivamente. Para essas equações, foram observadas variações nos intervalos de confiança (IC) de -30,33 até 299,06, sendo o menor IC foi observado para sistema de manejo de 4 kg MS/100 kg PV (25,97 a 82,14), diferindo apenas do sistema de manejo 16 kg MS/100 kg PV, que apresentou um IC de 105,92 a 284,74. Abstract:
The objective of the present experiment was to compare the behavioural response of calves reared by cows of different milk yields to the prevention of suckling with the aid of nose-flaps that allowed the maintenance of social contact with the dam. Twenty Hereford or Hereford · Angus crossbred primiparous cows from a single herd remained with their calves suckling until the beginning of the experiment, in late summer?early autumn. Milk production was determined monthly during the lactation period and the pairs were selected according to the cows?milk production, for higher or lower milk yield (HMY and LMY, respectively). On Day 0, suckling was prevented by placing a nose-flap anti-suckling device on each calf for 11 days. Calf behaviour was recorded from Day ?3 to Day 5, using instantaneous sampling of individual animals in each group, and the calves were weighed monthly since birth, and on Days ?8 and 11. Bodyweight profiles for HMY and LMY calves were similar until Day ?8; from then on, up to Day 11, HMY calves lost weigh, whereas LMY calves gained weight. Suckling frequency before nose-flaps were fitted was similar for HMY and LMY calves. There was no relationship between the cow?s milk yield and the changes observed in behaviour. Apart from playing, all behaviours were affected by prevention of suckling. The distance between the calves and the dam, and the frequency of grazing and rumination, decreased after nose-flaps were placed, whereas vocalisations, suckling attempts, walking and standing increased. In conclusion, the behavioural responses to prevention of suckling did not differ between the 6-month-old calves reared by cows with high yields andthose withlow milk yields. The behavioural response of calvesthat were prevented from suckling but were kept with the dams indicates that the cessation of suckling contributes to the weaning distress of 6-month-old beef calves.
